HE MAN NETFLIX MEME MOVIE
This new box office status was really cemented in the 2018 movie Bumblebee, which was even set during the 1980s. This can be seen in the dwindling interest in the live-action Transformers movies, despite their now being much more well-received than the previous live-action films. As things have transitioned into the 2020s, however, there might be a bit too much distance between this time period and too much saturation for such nostalgia to really hit its mark anymore. These included outright remakes of older properties and callbacks to them such as Netflix's TV series Stranger Things. The 2010s were dominated with throwbacks to the 1980s.

Unfortunately, this also showcases one of the problems with making a live-action He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie. Thus, there was definitely a precedent for why Netflix was going to be the studio handling the project. These included She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Masters of the Universe: Revelation (and its ensuing followup, Masters of the Universe: Revolution) and a CGI He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The movie would have followed several different takes on the franchise from Netflix. Given that other castings had yet to be finalized, this could have easily turned the unmade Masters of the Universe movie into the streaming platform's most expensive production yet. That's despite little in way of the movie's direction being revealed, with Netflix having nothing to show for all the money that had been spent so far. The somewhat esoteric production had supposedly already cast its version of He-Man, with the production costs theretofore reportedly being around $30 million already. Netflix had remained fairly tight-lipped concerning the now scrapped Masters of the Universe movie, despite how much it had already cost.
